If I Died Tomorrow, Here’s Everything I’d Want You to Know About Building a Personal Brand
I used to think personal branding was just about having a polished profile picture and a catchy tagline. But one experience changed everything for me. Let me tell you what happened and why this matters so much...
I’ve had a lot of “ah-ha” moments in my journey as a solopreneur, but there’s one that stands out more than all the others. A few years ago, I was sitting at my desk, scrolling through social media, feeling stuck. I had put in hours of work trying to build my brand, but it felt like I was just blending into the noise.
Then it hit me—what if I wasn’t showing up as me?
I realized something that changed everything:
Personal branding isn’t about trying to be someone you’re not.
It’s about becoming so you that people can’t help but notice.
That’s when my brand started to transform.
I began showing up authentically, sharing my real thoughts, and telling my stories.
But the journey didn’t stop there.
Over time, I’ve learned a few lessons that I’d want you to know—just in case today was the last time I ever got to write to you.
1. Authenticity Is the Key to Trust
Here’s the thing: You don’t need to pretend to be perfect.
In fact, people are drawn to authenticity more than anything else.
When you show up as yourself—flaws, quirks, and all—you attract the people who resonate with you, not an image of who you think you should be.
Actionable Tip: Start small. PeopleIn your next post or email, share something real about your process—whether it’s a struggle, a mistake, or an honest opinion. Let your audience see the person behind the brand. The more real you get, the more people will connect with you.
You can’t become an authority if people don’t know exactly what you stand for.
Clarity in your message is everything.
Once that’s in place, consistency will make you unforgettable.
Actionable Tip: Write down the one thing you want people to remember about your brand. If you can’t describe it in one sentence, you’re not clear enough. Then, consistently show up online and speak about that one thing—whether it’s through blog posts, social media updates, or videos. Your audience will begin to associate your name with that specific expertise.
3. Storytelling Is the Bridge to Connection
Facts don’t make people care; stories do.
People remember how you make them feel, and the stories you share will leave a lasting impact. Share your personal experiences, your struggles, and your victories.
Your story is what makes your brand human.
Actionable Tip: Start incorporating storytelling into your content. Think about one key moment in your life or business that shaped who you are today. Write about it, and share the lessons you learned. The more personal you get, the deeper the connection you’ll create with your audience.
So, why does this matter?
Because building a personal brand isn’t about vanity—it’s about being seen.
When you get clear on who you are, consistently show up, and share your story, you will build a brand that not only stands out but also stands for something.
